My wife's Volvo V70 T5 has 164000 has been a great car. Unfortunately, in the recent flooding in SC, my wife decided to drive through water about 16" deep and killed the engine. Because the car's in excellent shape, we got a new engine. The car seemed to run perfectly, including a trip to Texas and back.
However, in the last month or so the car has started to shudder when it hits 40-50MPH. It doesn't do it at any other time and otherwise runs perfectly. I'm HOPING it's not the transmission because I'm tired of pouring money into it. Any thoughts?

Check the color of the transmission fluid and level to start. Unfortunately these cars are known to have junk transmissions straight from the factory. Please explain exactly what you consider "shudder" to mean?

The 2004 transmissions were better, have you checked the ignition coils? If you still have the original engine, just swap them over.

Does it do it only under acceleration, or does it shake when coasting in that speed range? If only acceleration, I would suspect axle shaft(s).
