Does Bosch voltage regulator fit all 850 alternators?

Post by JimBee »

I think I have Bosch alternators on my 850's, all pulled from jy donors. Is there just one VR that fits any Bosch alternator I might have?

Search for info posted by erikv11 re different VRs.

However, if I have to guess, then the same VR fits many different Bosch alternators, as long as the amp rating is the same.

BMW does the same thing: different Bosch alternators during the same model such as E39 (1996-2003 5-series), but all Bosch alternators share the same VR.

The VRs on various 850s are physically different, they may not interchange between alternators without modifying the wiring or the plastic housing on the alternator. Best is to pull the VR, then find a replacement with the same geometry and connectors. Lots of details here: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... hp?t=61610.

Okay, thanks. Glad I checked. I had my alt's tested when I got them from the jy, all good then and still working. The thread about the daughter's cross country trip got me thinking. Finding out what I"ve got goes on the list for spring thaw. Two short months until the songbirds start their music? I'm ready.
