bmdubya1198,

It seems more appropriate for me to respond to your "VOL-FCR can read some ECUs' DTCs, but can not read '98 V70 GLT transmission ECU's DTCs" problem in the new thread that you created on 2015-09-25: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=72124

So that's where I'm headed -- after reviewing the "build" thread that's linked to in your signature: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=71579

Thanks for focusing on your particular problem in a new thread.

Yes, I realized that my problem really wasn't at fault of the program, and I should go to another thread. I won't keep renewing this one! :D

Are you running the crack file? What you typically get is a demo program (the buttons don't work) and a separate crack file. You launch the program from the crack file in order for the buttons to function.

If you have a "readme" file it will explain where the files should be located and launched from.

Lee,

I assumed he had gotten past that part, since in this post https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... 56#p379837 in his "build" thread, he had displayed the pictures of Vol-FCR SRS and ECC DTCs, then in a response to erikv11's following post in that thread, bmdubya1198 said he had cleared most of the SRS DTCs and all of the ECC DTCs.

Would it be possible for him to use Vol-FCR to clear some of the SRS DTCs and all of the ECC DTCs if he hadn't performed the "launch the program from the crack file in order for the buttons to function" procedure that you mentioned?

In any case, it'll be good for bmdubya1198 to answer your question, since if he hadn't performed that "launch the program from the crack file" procedure, I'm obviously barking up the wrong tree in my responses.

Yes, I had to install the demo, then open the crack file, which is what I used.

I don't own a windows computer (except a Surface 3) but I do run XP and Windows 7 on my Mac laptop as virtual machines using Fusion. Does anyone know if vol-fcr can run on either of these virtual machine configurations? I assume my Surface 3 cannot run vol-fcr because Surface 3 shipped with Windows 8 and can run Windows 10 but I don't think it can run XP or Windows 7 (unless as a virtual machine ... again).

You shouldn't have any problem running VOL-FCR on your Surface 3, whether it's running Windows 8/8.1 or 10. You just have to set the VAG COM cable to COM1 in order for the program to detect it. I am running VOL-FCR on my HP laptop running Windows 10 with no problem.
You could probably run it on your Mac just fine, as well. As long as you can set a USB port to COM1 port on the virtual machine.

Thanks. I assumed VOL-FCR required XP or Windows 7. Waiting for the cable to arrive. I'll try it out on both my Surface and Mac laptop.

I bought the cheapest USB cable i can find from ebay and it had CH340 chip. It worked just fine out of the box with Vol-FCR and Win7 in Virtualbox in Linux.
