It's something in the database that the web code doesn't like. Some alerts broke when I updated the forum software on Thanksgiving.
I'm currently swapping tables back and forth to determine which is the offender. I'm doing this on my local machine, not the server. I've replicated the environment locally. There are something like 50 tables in this phpBB instance.
phpBB.com is no help. This is a fringe/outlier type of bug, from what I've read. Nobody else has it. MVS has it because the data in the database has been accumulating since 2002, and it's hiding somewhere in the half-gigabyte db.
