Yes that is true, my car does not have a fuel pressure regulator.

UPDATE.
So i got the new pump in and started and unfortunately the same problem happened. It started, idled for 2-3 seconds, sputtered and then died.
I decided to jump the relay again, and this time it worked.
I left the car idling for 5 minutes then revved it a little and it worked fine.
I put the relay back in and it won't start.
So it would seem that both my fuel pump and my fuel pump relay were bad. I must have really bad luck

So I'll get a new relay. I hope that this is the last thing that I need.

Maybe the root cause was the fuel relay all along.
This is why I recommend that people carry a Torx Set and a jumper wire (with fuse) in the glove box.
The diagnosis with the jumper wire is quick and definitive!

So it was the relay all along but hey, failure of the old fuel pumps is pretty common too now you know you are covered.

Update.
So its been about 3 weeks so far with the new fuel pump relay, and everything works.
So I have installed a new fuel pump, new fuel pump relay and new fuel filter, so as erikv11 said I'm covered.
