what to do with spare seats (which parts to keep)

Post by Clemens »

Sounds like a stupid question, but I got a set of leather seats, front and rear. They are in alright condition except for both lower Skins of the front seats are missing. Plus, the passenger side one is a Memory seat, the driver´s side is not. Because they were free I took them because I wanted to put them in my wife´s 854. The back seat is for an 855 though (I don´t think they fit, right?) and because the lower Skin is missing I can´t really use them. On the other hand, my R has nice leather/alcantara interior, so I don´t need them.

Because I don´t have the room to store extra seats I don´t need I was thinking about parting them out. Which parts except for the Skin of the back rest of the front seats and the heater mats are good to Keep as spare parts? Are the Motors and other electrical components on the passenger Memory seat and the driver´s Memory seat identical (as spares for the R)?

Why did I take ´em in the first place? Cuz the PO said on the phone that the leather was cracked (not gone) and that both were Memory seats (which would have nbeen nice for the wife´s car). Since they were free and I was already there I just took them with me. and I can still use the heater mats because I have one or two broken ones anyhow. I might put the leather back seats in the R to save the alcantara / suede from food spilled by the kids.

Btw, I´d give them away for free if someone wants them, without the heater mats and the missing lower front seat Skins, of course. (Pickup in Vienna, Austria only.)

Long way to go to collect them!

I'd keep only the drivers seat adjustment switches which un-hook (I have a set in my stock), if you have pulled the heaters then those. If you pull the backrest seat covers for the front seats, then pull the seat back adjustment cable, but otherwise, junk them. If you are really keen you could keep the motorised base on the drivers side seat. Rear seats are not the same.

Pull the memory unit and switches from the passenger side- they seem to be hard to find- for me at least

As said above. Pull the small parts and recycle the rest. I kicked around a set of seats for 3 years in my basement. Pulled the skins and switches and now I have space for other stuff.

Thanks, that´s what I thought. Just didn´t want to do something stupid. I once parted out an old Opel with very rare trim. But I didn´t know how rare it was so I threw quite a few parts away that were highly sought after. And as they say: Never make the same mistake once.

:D

I once boxed up a brand new Volvo-branded radiator and transported it with me to SF as checked luggage. No I did not have to pay for checking it ...

@ skloon: that chainsaw story just shows how littel trust people have in Volvo owners ;-)

I think the backseats could be checked in, the front seats will depend on how charming you are.

If you fly Spirit or Ryanair, you can ask for a discount for bringing your own seat..
