We were given a very low kilometre 1995 850 late last year.
Its had a few problems with the brakes from sitting so long, and some of the plastic is quite brittle when dismantly things so requires car and superglue.
We discovered the recirculating air wasn't working and on pulling the glovebox found the intermediate lever broken around the square drive.
Bit of a search revealed its no longer available and we couldn't find anything where anyone had found a substitute from a later model car.
So having a 3D printer, I designed and made a replacement. Beefier than the original and in ABS - a good engineering plastic.
If anyone is in desperate need, I would consider making them and mailing them subject to the costs of the plastic, time and mailing costs.
Replacement recirculate intermediate lever available.

Nicely done
Interesting development for the industry. When small plastic parts become NLA, will they release mechanical specs to let people fab substitutes. Or, more to the point, why should small parts be NLA in the world of cheap3D solutions??

Well, one reason is if someone goes to the trouble of doing all the work to make the file, they may want to recoup that cost...

For sure. This is not just a replacement but a re-engineered beefier part made of upgraded material. Given the size and weight, even from Australia the mailing can't be that costly. The OP is offering a service to the forum, and it ought to made worth his while.abscate wrote:Well, one reason is if someone goes to the trouble of doing all the work to make the file, they may want to recoup that cost...

I'm not suggesting otherwise.
That's a cool part and nice looking work.
I'm just thinking that 3D printers aren't
going away anytime soon and the maker
crowd isn't getting any smaller, either.
Times they are a changin'... just saying
