OK so my 98 V70 came with the winter package, wipers, heated seats, heated mirrors.
I bought a driver front door off of a 98 S70 to replace my driver side door back in the summer.
Went to use the rear defrost and heated mirrors for the first time last night… Sure enough the driver side mirror did not defrost. Thought about it for a few hours, then went back and looked at the craigslist picture of the S 70 I took the door off of... sure enough, no windshield wiper is on the headlight so no winter package.
I took the mirror and all the removable items off my old door before I scrapped the skin...
What element from the old door would I need to swap out to make the mirror defrost? Is it in the glass itself, the housing, the switch or the wiring harness?
Thanks.

You can check the wiring to make sure it gets power when the switch is on but probably the element is bad and you want to switch the glass (or why not the whole mirror?). See this, especially the last two posts:

My S70 has cloth seats (alas!) but they are heated (yay!).

+1 When I have had problems with these failing it is usually the heating element that fails in the mirror. But worth checking the power feed as recommended by the other guys first.
