Re: 98 V70 NA Synthetic oil change interval
Also, the purolator Classic filters I use have an anti drain back valve. That's all I've ever bought. The purolator Classic cost about 3.50 at Walmart. Before I owned it the car had ten years of jiffy lube filters. In my opinion there's no point to use an expensive fancy filter now even if you can buy them at a reasonable cost in bulk.

For what its worth I run the Mann filter on my 98 v70 T5 with valvoline max life 10w-40 synthetic blend. Oil costs me about $22 and the filter is $5. I change it every 3k due to extreme driving conditions in LA. In your case I don't see the point in saving a $1.50 on a lower quality filter. Whatever the previous owner did to the car didn't burn a valve, but that doesn't mean that continuing along the same path won't eventually burn a valve. For me saving a $1.50 on an oil filter wouldn't be worth it. But you know your car And situation better than all of us. So you might see it differently.
As a part of this discussion, does anyone see harm in running a synthetic blend in my T5 instead of full synthetic?

Then just do like most of the motoring public during the last two years of ownership--change the oil once and don't worry about it.98v70dad wrote:There is no point in doing the best thing when it's way too late for that. I just want to put two more years of almost all highway miles on it.

Charles, I pay $26.44 at Walmart for a five quart jug of Mobil 1 high mileage 10w40 full synthetic, so about $32 per change. The full synthetic would offer more heat protection (resistance to breakdown) for your HP turbo at an additional cost of $10 per oil change.charleskennedy23 wrote:For what its worth I run the Mann filter on my 98 v70 T5 with valvoline max life 10w-40 synthetic blend. Change it with full synthetic and drive for 7500 miles, then change oil and filter again. If it's all highway miles you can even go 2 years 7500 miles ok.
In two years, some person scraping by will get a decent shot at a cheap ride which is good karma for you.
Charles..with that frequent interval blend would be cheaper. Are you sure you actually fit severe use profile in LA?
Usually you guys warm your engines up well and then don't rev high in traffic.....just about the best engine driving there is!

Yes. I understand. You gave me one of the most reasonable answers to my question based on the circumstances I gave. I am not arguing with the responses. I was making sure they actually read the original question. In my experience in using forums of any type (I belong to about 5 of them) people often dont read the context of the original post.rspi wrote:This is what we would do with a $1,500 car. 98v70dad....
The point is.....
Why you bother to keep your car in perfect working condition without trouble codes and similiar things when you don't pay attention to a VITAL thing....the engine.?!
Good oil filter is important just like as a good engine oil.One without another, just don't work.
