You had a thetmostat code and you ordered a temp sensor.

I would be fitting these first so when/if it hits the dealer they will have a clean slate to work from. No use paying them for an hour of thermostat/sensor fitting (which is something they will need to eliminate anyway)

if they determine that's what the problem is, I'll tell them I'll do it myself because they're gonna nickel and dime me to death. It's not a difficult task

Another update: I went to the dealer and compression tests were fine. They switched plugs one and three. The light came back on so I put Volvo plugs in. Now the car has a misfire when accelerating and the RPM surges a few hundred then the gear shifts. Thoughts?

Okay so I have had a compression test done and it all came back normal. I've already mentioned that I replaced coil and plugs. I put genuine plugs in. I'm going to try the fuel filter because I've only noticed it under load now so I'm going to change that tomorrow and see if it continues.

Fuel filter unlikely. Vacuum leak or (gulp) ETM problem

Are you a white label or yellow label ETM ??

I have never changed the ETM but I plan on it soon. I changed the fuel filter and reset the code, so far so good for the misfire. Had another code pop up a couple days ago about my thermostat so I changed that and I have not had a code so far.
