Head gasket or new motor?

Post by DeanY »

Hi all . 07 xc70 with the missing coolant issue. Replaced water pump, hoses, thermostat, coolant cap. I can't find the coolant leek. Top radiator hose gets hard until I release pressure. Car does not over heat, but add coolant light goes on. Does not misfire or have coolant in oil. What gives, anyone else been thru this ? Thanks

When you open expansion tank (not on a running or hot engine), does the level restores?

Yes,coolant rushes in tank. I forgot to add I replaced radiator too.
Maybe I need to bring it to get flushed and a pressurized refill?

^^what he said. Check for exhaust gas in coolant. I had a similar issue when my head gasket went out with an internal leak to cylinder #1 on mine in the past. Not a fun situation.

Thanks for the replies folks. It seems to be a head gasket.
Going to the shop Monday. Anything else I should replace while it's there? Already did timing belt and water pump.
Thanks
