Hi guys.

While trying to remove the flame trap on my car today, I noticed a small rubber hose had collapsed and pretty much disintegrated when I tried to remove it.

When cleaning out the gunk and burnt oil I saw the nipple for that small hose was completely blocked and I've tried to clean it as best as I could using a small drill bit. Is there supposed to be hole through the nipple into the housing part 13 in the picture attached, or is it a vacuum switch?

What connects up to the flame trap via hose 19 and is it essential? It's somewhere behind the throttle body and kind of hard to get to the pipe that the hose was connected to.

Thanks,
Teddy

Teddy, that stuff needs to be REPLACED. It gets old and brittle, deteriorates and falls apart. Yes it is important for it to be together to work properly.

Ack... Yeah I figured so.

Reaching out to the stealership now...

Still I wonder what the hose with number 20 connects up to.

$23.15 including tax for 13, 14, 15, 18 and 19 was much less than I feared.

Thanks, Robert.

Don't bother replacing 15, just throw it away, leave the housing empty inside. All that flame trap disc does is get clogged up.

You can also replace 18-19-20 with a few cm of generic rubber vacuum line.

Did you figure out where 20 connects? Vacuum tree maybe?

Look for a vacuum diagram under your hood - it will show where your hoses attach

Maybe.

I haven't found more info on #20 yet... I might find out tomorrow when I've picked up the parts from the independent OE dealer.

I know people say to just throw away the flame trap, but since it really doesn't cost an arm and a leg ($8); and it's easy to replace, I'll replace/clean it when I do the yearly service anyway. I'd rather have the filter catching the bigger chunks of burnt oil before it gets into the TB and engine.

I thought the whole point of the question was that this is not a standard setup but if there is an open nipple on the manifold then yeah, that is where 20 would connect.

Well, the open end is what connects to the flame trap housing. I was just curious as to where it leads as the picture from VADIS isn't really making it clear.

I'll look at it more closely in real life tomorrow, when I have the parts. It would probably make sense to replace the PCV system completely now that I am going to mess about with part of it anyway.
