PCV repair help needed
I'm planning on doing my PCV on my 96 turbo. I'm gonna use the 5/8 heater hose instead of the factory Volvo hose. My question is in the picture below the small vac hose that attaches to the IM and runs to the PTC does anyone know the correct size so I can purchase some vac hose ? I thought it was 5/16 but that seems to big.

I used 3/16" fuel line off the roll at the local auto parts store for mine. This was roughly a year and a half ago. Still seems to be working fine.

Here is what I remember:
5/16 is good at the manifold end, but wide at the PTC and must be clamped down.
3/16 is good at the PTC, difficult to get on at the manifold.
If you are going to have the manifold off, then go with 3/16 and you can force it on. Or maybe 1/4 is the way to go.
If you want to wait I can go check a manifold in my garage tonight, it would be good to have this sorted out.

For that tube, another alternative to consider is 6mm ID silicone tubing. I am using that and it's working well. The silicone tubing is a tight fit at the PTC inlet but the tubing stretches pretty easily. On the manifold end, the tubing is about right to slide over the nipple on the fitting. I held it in place on that end with a tie wrap.

I decided to get 1/4 " hose i figured its in the middle of both sizes. Ill let yall know how it works out

@jreed, I also have used silicone tubing there, currently have it on my V70. It gets oily and starts to "sweat" oil from the inside out, the oily surface showed up at about 1 year of usage on on my V70 (the other cars I have rubber). Probably still works fine, but it gets a little messy. Will be curious to hear how it holds up for you in the long run.
I also just measured with calipers, some spare parts in the garage, these are the ODs:
intake manifold nipple, behind the bulge: 6.7 mm = 0.26 inches
small tube on the PTC nipple: 9.2 mm = 0.36 inches
FYI
3/16 = 0.187 inches = 4.8 mm
1/4 = 0.250 inches = 6.3 mm
5/16 = 0.313 inches = 7.9 mm
I tried a piece of 1/4 rubber tubing and it was just slightly loose on the IM, nice and tight on the PTC. Should work great if you clamp or zip tie it, especially at the intake.
The groupthink was good, I agree, use ID of 3/16, 1/4, or 6 mm.
