01 v70 no start

My aunt has a 01 v70 she was driving and the car lost all electrical power and stalled out. I am not familiar with Volvo's. So my first instinct was the battery was dead because I had no dash lights seats did not move radio not working. I tried to jump it from the post by the fuse panel under the hood and nothing was working. I did hear a relay type of click when I put the key to the starter position. Can someone point me in the right direction.

DO the dash lights come on when you turn the key?

It does sound like a complete failure of the battery or cable. That can be dangerous and beyond the scope of someone who doesn't understand electrical pretty deeply. You can do a lot of expensive damage to a P2 jumping it from another car or booster packs.

I'm not a Volvo expert but in the case where a car is driving along normally and then loses all electrical power, that could be due to a failed alternator, or even just alternator belt. Usually (here's where my knowledge lacks) the alt. belt would also drive other things like power steering, perhaps the water pump, so you would know if it had failed because the car would also be hard to steer. But if the alternator stopped providing sufficient charge, the car would run mostly normally until the battery ran out of power.

Not alternator failure if the lights out is sudden. Usually you see everything get slower and dimmer as the battery depletes.

Im thinking cable or ground point failure here.

This is true, although we are relying on someone's recounting of someone else's description of the event. You are correct, but it's hard to know the timing and speed of electrical failure in this case...

basic electrical troubleshooting 101.

check battery with a meter.

Check fuses for continuity.

check and clean battery terminals.

check and clean ALL grounds and primaries.

that's what you start with.
if it all checks out then you move on to ignition switch/relays.

OK and I do have mechanical/electrical knowledge and the light shut off suddenly at the same time the motor stalled. I have check all fuses and they were good. I have read that there was a fuse on the positive battery cable that is not serviceable. Is this true? And where can I find this

there may be a fusible link. I'm not sure.
a multimeter at the front of the car would tell you.

Trace all the wires from the positive side of the battery to the main fuse box, I'm not sure if a 2001 has more P80 or P2 electrical system. There are lots of fuses to check too...main engine fuse for instance. Grab owners manual off the web for free and check them out

Do check battery for an open cell too.
