I see.

In the US there were no chipped 850s ever, in fact no chipped keys on P80 before 1999.

Well unless you have some information about how to check the "k-line" it seems much, much easier to next check if the LED gadget can talk to the ECU. If yes then probably the issue is the scanner(s), if no then OP will want to track down why not (and "k-line" is one possibility).

If i remember correctly....pin7 from obdII(white wire) to pin B36 on ecu.
I would remove neg.battery cable and ecu from it's housing and then check for continuity with a digital multimeter set on beep signal.
Need to check wiring diagram but i'm 99% sure that's it.

Good stuff, ok I am getting it. OP can also find this info from a good wiring diagram.

Thanks guys. I will break out the multimeter and check the k line. I will also be building the obd2 tester this week as well. Hopefully it isn't a broken k line! Would that require a new ecu or will it be a different wire in the car somewhere?

If "k-line" is broken somewhere...it's broken, new ecu will not help.
The only solution would be a "k-line" recovery.
Did you tried to communicate with other modules in the car like abs,transmission,immo2?You will need vol-fcr or a dealership for this.
If scanner won't communicate ONLY with ecu,you can run a separate line directly from pin7 obdII to ecu b36.
Regular/universal scanners will not communicate with anything but ecu.For every other module in the car you will need special scan tool like vol-fcr,at least.

Many consumer scanners can communicate with SRS and TCU, for example Autel EU702, some of the other Autel models can I know but I stopped trying to keep up with that topic.
