1996 850 Strange noise from A pillar

Post by Teddy1975 »

This is one for the detectives...

I have a strange buzz noise coming from the drivers side A pillar. At first I thought it was from the speakers but I've disconnected and removed both the door speaker and the dash speaker.

It only starts when I'm driving at 70-75 km/h or roughly 45 mph and seems to increase with vehicle speed not rpm. When I passed a semi heading the other way, the noise increased with the wind shear.

I've checked to see if there is something lose on the outside of the car and it doesn't seem that way.

The sound file was recorded with my phone laying on the dash where the speaker sits.

Any ideas as to what is the cause of this sound? It's driving me nuts...

Angry Bees??

But in all seriousness, it sort of sounds like the visqueen they glue inside the door to keep the elements out of the inner door panel. Maybe it is loose and vibrates perfectly with wind?

Also, check the windshield trim that is located at the top of the windshield at the roof line.

Yeah, combatkarl and cuhfs are right, it's about 3 inches of the window trim that has come lose from the roof line.

I'll get some epoxy glue to fix it up, right now the car is grounded due to a failed tie rod and too much play in the rack.

Thanks a bunch though, guys.
