Re: VIDA 2012B VMWare Player Image
I tried just loading WinXP with VMWare without the files...just the virtual OS but I get the same errors each time, so now I know why it won't load VIDA. here is what I get. Once I start to set-up (changing the RAM to 4Gigs),: "VMWare Workstation 12 Player Binary Translation incompatible with long mode on this platform. Long mode will be disabled in this virtual environment and applications requiring long mode will not function properly." There is a link to look this up on their website but the link does not work. You can push "OK" to get past this, so I do...then I get the following: "VMWare Player unrecoverable error (vcpu-0) 0= verify vmcore/vmm/cpuid c: 376..." and then there is something about a long file and a message that there is an error file created (which I can never find) and that I can contact their support if I wish and they will help me depending on my "level of entitlement." I have tried installing an uninstalling this all several times without any change in the messages. I even upgraded to Pro for a 30 day trial and still get the same messages. Has anyone run into this? I'm about to try VADIS again instead of VIDA and somehow get it to run in Windows 10...or in some virtual environment.

Strange things happen- I downgraded to VMWare V. 7 which is what people were having success with and then the same errors occurred. Next, I did quite a bit of reading and found where Intel machines need "Virtual Machines" or something like that enabled in their bios settings, so I just got through doing that and low and behold there was a change. Not necessarily a good one- When I started VMWare with Windows XP with VIDA, I got a boot up screen like it was searching for the right files...it gave a MAC Address and finally returned an error that said that there was no operating system loaded. I'm not sure what to do at this point.

On VMWare Player 12, I found that you have to update all of the virtual tools and then reboot the computer. Once I did this, the virtual WinXP with Vida finally worked! Then I found a file I wanted to print but printer drivers were not installed, so I got on the web to download them. Once they were loaded, I thought I was home free but then the computer locked up on me while I was trying to print. I could not get out of this situation to save my life. I forced the computer to shut down and reboot and after I did that, things were not right again. I had to delete the files I created with WMWare and start over. Fingers crossed this time (again).

Okay- so my update to this. After deleting everything and remaking the WinXP files for VIDA (as I was locked out of VMWare until I did this - I got a message everytime I tried to start VMWare Player that the process was already running- apparently the copy of XP/VIDA was corrupted after my computer froze up), I re-made the files by unzipping the 6 downloaded files again and reloaded everything, UPDATED all VIRTUAL Software in VMWARE and rebooted again. I then pointed VMWare to the file that IT had set in ITS PROFILE- NOT the one that was created from meshing together the downloaded files with 7-Zip. After figuring this all out, everything works flawlessly now! Oh, and once you enable Printers from the Host, there is no need to (download or load drivers for your printer)- your printer will just somehow work!! I did get rid of automatic updates (WinXP is no longer supported and all you get is an endless loop at this point anyway), and I downloaded and installed AGV (antivirus software) in the virtual windows, as I was concerned of running anything that might be connected to the web without protection. I would like to thank the original poster for making VIDA possible!! Now, somehow I'm interested in tinkering with DICE. If the scan tool is not too expensive I might buy it and load this virtual copy of Windows/VIDA onto a laptop (also running Windows 10) so I can read Volvo specific car codes and reset them. P.S. If you have trouble like I did, make sure that "Virtual Environments" is set to "allowed" in the advanced settings of your computer's BIOS (that's the one you hold down an F-key when you start your computer)...apparently this only applies to some Intel machines and doesn't seem to be an issue if you have an AMD processor.

Hi.
First post.
but since this seems to be the place you end up while searching the google machines.
https://mega.nz/#!p5MjAC6Z!RoIBaBgsLJDt ... Y7V-ooyfWU
is a 9.9GB .ova file intended to work with Virtualbox.
it's VIDA 2014D on a Win7 SP1 IE8 install. it will unpack to about 20GB, and the drive is dynamically allocated 60.
Basically you're going to download Virtualbox, import that appliance and boot it.

and to expand on the printer issues above.
If you setup a shared host machine folder in virtualbox you can install a PDF printer (It may already have cutepdf in there, can't remember, may have done that after I exported it.) and then just "print" files from VIDA into a PDF document accessible by the host machine.
That way it works, always, and you never have to sully your virtual machine with printer drivers, or deal with making a a printer change when you replace the old one.
Guest additions are already installed in my image
https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch04.html
https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch04. ... redfolders
So you just need to alter the virtual machine properties to automount a folder. it will appear as a network drive in Windows.
i'd post a screenshot, but apparently photobucket is broken right now.
I'll get it later.
I don't want to hijack the thread, so if you want i'll start another, but like i said, this is where you end up when you start searching for VIDA in google.

Hi, thanks for your hard work. I have got vida working on the virtual machine, been trying for weeks with no success through other sources.
I have clicked vida all in one and it says this machine is registered as Volvo, I entered Volvo but it says to contact the help desk. Am I doing something wrong?

I got all the files ready to go. I went to start the VM, and it goes into a loop of booting Windows. It will show the VirtualBox boot screen, go the the "Windows is Loading Files" screen, then start over again. How do I fix that to get into the system?
I lowered the memory to 3.1GB because it would not run with the full amount due to the installed memory on my laptop. I don't think that would have an effect, though.

My guess is that your VirtualBox configuration of the VM isn't quite correct. I have mine working fine in VirtualBox, so I can go through the settings that I do have.bmdubya1198 wrote: Hi,

For "General->Basic::Version" I have it set to "Windows 7 (64-bit)". This is probably the first thing to check - if you have it set t something other than what you are installing, you can have trouble installing, since VirtualBox can tailor the behavior depending on what you have set.
Under System->Motherboard, I have Chipset=PIIX3, and "Enable I/O APIC" checked. On the processor tab, I have only one processor selected, the PAE/NX box is not checked. On the acceleration tab, I have Paravirtualization Interface set to "Default", and both "Enable VT-x/AMD-V" and "Enable Nested Paging" checked.
Those are the most likely ones that will get you in trouble.
There is another potential gotcha - I don't know what type of hard drive you are creating the vhd on, but if the sector size is 4096 (common with terrabyte external drives), then VirtualBox won't be able to deal with it properly. But from the sounds of it, you aren't far enough along for this to be the problem.
