2000 V70 bumping from second down to first

Ok, so I've gotten most of the problems taken care of on this car that i'm working on. PO replaced front struts, rear shocks, rear rotors/brakes, timing belt and a few other maintenance items. I am waiting on doublebug to get back to me on programming my spare Throttlebody.

Now: I drove the car and it rides perfectly EXCEPT once it warms up and I drive everynow and then the transmission will "bump" down from second to first. I checked fluid and it was clear and still pretty pinkish/red, level was up to par also. I replaced the front transmission torque mount. I know the upper torque mount is no good and am waiting for a new one to come in. The mount on passenger side looked ok but I have a new one i'm planning to put in. Question is, are there any other mounts that can cause this bumping from second to first. The upshifting is all nice and smooth and also downshifting from 5-4 4-3 3-2 I have a vibration when I am at a stoplight which must be one of the mounts..... but haven't found which one yet. Anyone ever experience this? What was the solution? I am wondering if a drain and fill would be a good idea it has 171k on it This is a non turbo

Yes drain and fill is a great idea with 171K. Drain and fills can fix a lot of transmissions. See Robert DIY video.

Should do every 30K to help avoid the kind of issue you have. May end up being a solinod/valve body issue. Hope not.

Thanks for the link Cuhfs. I wonder if the transmission oil that he is using is OK to use for a 2000 V70? I have heard that the Aisin 5 speed transmissions need to use synthetic transmission oil. I've been using Toyota IV type fluid in the past as recommended by the guys on MVS since I don't want to use Volvo's $20/liter oil!! Outrageous! I am planning to do the drain/fill like Robert's video when I get back from Vacation. Let's see if the bumping goes away as the fluid was pretty "clear" when I checked it and the bumping is subtle.

On my 2000 V70 the transmission fluid looked nice on the dipstick but it looked terrible when drained.
Check some other tutorials on MVS webpage before you start - they can differ depending on who is doing it and what car.

If it's a non turbo you have the 5 speed (1st year) and you're lucky it's still in one piece.
A rebuilt valvebody should fix your issue if the rest of the tranny is not too hammered

The rest of the transmission shifts perfectly smooth. It's only when it downshifts from 2nd to 1st (Sometimes, when braking hard) so I am hoping that the drain and fill method will help. If I do a "Full flush" , would I simply remove the top transmission cooler pipe and put the see-through hose on the pipe and then into a clear gallon tub/bottle? And just stop the engine once it is half full and fill new fluid (Toyota Type IV) and keep doing this until the fluid coming out of the pipe is nice and red/pink?

+1 on the Toyota IV type fluid
+1 on the valvebody if drain and fills don't help.

You also need the latest software, clear and reset the adaptions and a new drivecyclem so instead of spending this money then spending it again replace/rebuild the VB first as it WILL need this, THEN continue on with the rest of the list

I want to know, when I flush the trans, do I use the upper tranny cooler line with the clear hose on the line or the rad? I think it's the line but just wanting to avoid a mess
