However, the SRS light remained on, and VIDA gave me this error "SRS-0031 Adaptive steering column Resistance too high." It turns out there's another SRS plug in the steering column that the wreck had ruined. So one trip to the junkyard later, I put in a new steering column, one that came from the same car that provided the airbag and clockspring.
Now instead of the one SRS light going out I have lots of new problems. It turns out the replacement steering column is locked, so I can't reattach it at the base of the floorboard. Here's where I messed up, I believe. I started the car to see if I could unlock the steering wheel. I didn't have the clockspring installed at the time. The wheel remained locked, and now the car has all sorts of error codes. The Immobilizer is on, and I have a "wheel locked, check manual" message.
So I get another steering column that isn't locked up. This one is from a 2006 S40. I plug everything in, and turn the car on. Now the car locks the second new steering column. The new error messages that appeared when I installed the first new steering column remained.
VIDA is saying specifically I have these problems:
CEM-DD10 Communication with SCL control module Signal missing
ECM-720A Immobilizer communication - Communication fault
SRS-0005 Battery supply Low voltage
SRS-012C Can Signal Configuration fault
SWM-DD10 Communication between control units Communication fault
SWM-DD11 Communication between control units Communication fault
Is there anyway I can erase the immobilizer codes with VIDA?
Just to check, I put the original steering column that had the bad SRS plug back in. All of the new error messages remained.
It seems like the ECM and SWM just need to be reset so they can work together. Is there a software fix?
I appreciate any advice anyone might have -- besides pushing the car into a river, which I've already considered.
Thank you.
