Re: 3rd Row seat for V70
Or just zip tie the setbacks together when needed or if permanently needed. Keep pliers in the car to cut if needed. It's a retainer only not a piece of safety related hardware

All good advice and thank you! Sorry I missed the note on the seat lock mechanism, but thanks for the clarification.
Now I am in the lap of the gods as after being un-seasonably warm, it has decided to cool down today and for the next week, and has started snowing!
Maybe the car gods are trying a part pulling intervention!
Neil.

Old guys shouldn't go to PnP! I am aching all over, but did get the 3rd Row seat. The easy part was the seat removal and the seat belts and retainer. The major PITA was the retainer in the rear back rest of the rear seat. Must have taken an hour to get it out. I had great difficulty getting the rear seat back out of the car to make it easier to work on. The damn thing didn't want to come out, so eventually took a cold chisel to it and managed to get it out without braking it. I'll take pictures tomorrow as I think it I different to the how to I used. If it is I'll add an addendum.
The car was a 2000 V70XC, but someone had removed the AWD system and done the old stick the collar into the transmission output on the RHS where the angle gear used to be. Clearly had not worked well as there was trans fluid leaking.
Pulled the steering rack and the front anti-sway bar as both are good. Car looked like someone had spent some money on it. Planned to take the rear Nivomats but the idiots insist on taking the wheels off and propping the car up on an old steel wheel placed under the spare wheel cavity. The weight of the car makes this collapse slowly so the car sits too close to the ground the be able to drop the shocks out without removing the lower control arms first. Ran out of time and energy!.

I have been reviewing the excellent thread that erik11 posted and linked for me. Looks like I have to go back to PnP. I somehow (stupidity?) missed the 2 brackets that are the brass colored ones on the top of the rails. I don't recall seeing those in the car and they are not listed as parts that are available any longer.
The only real difference I have found is that the seat belt reels are not covered in the same way. Typical, Volvo made it harder and you have to remove the side panels to access the reel bolt. Otherwise it is the same as far as I can see.

Reason I didn't see the brass colored brackets was because the are painted black in this later car (2000 V70XC)!
So far the only difference I can see between the 850 and the V70 3rd row is the lack of the cover over the bolts for the seat belt mount just behind the rear seat at shoulder height. The bolt is just hidden behind the panel carpeting, which requires you to remove the side panel at the front inside the 'C' pillar.
Now just have to decide if I need to keep it or not. Don't really need it as my kids are in their 20's!
Mind you as I was back at PnP I ended up with other parts like a rear ant-sway bar for an XC with some surface rust but in good condition, a pair of really nice yellow band Nivomats, a couple of cabin temp. sensors, another nice wooden auto gearshift knob, and wooden glove box cover.
Really need to stop this sickness!
