Turbo control valve
Turbo control valve
My 2001 volvo s40 began taking off with a drag and then would gradually build speed so I took it to the mechanic. I was told that the TVC was broken. The way it was explained to me was that it was one piece that was broken and he (the mechanic),was going to try and find just that piece instead of the whole kit that the piece is attached to. Apparently this is a difficult task. So after a week in his shop he sends me a picture of the broken valve. Is this really a TVC or amibei g taken for a ride? This looks easy to fix.
I replaced this part a couple years ago. How yours broke is actually rather common and causes a nice vacuum leak. You may have noticed issues with your brakes as well before taking it to the mechanic. This part causes a buzzing and you'll hear the sucking of air when the engine is running. The assembly comes as a hose Volvo PN: 30616993 #13, #18, #14, #15(comes assembled) on first image below. It has nothing to do with the turbo. It runs from the brake vacuum pump (#33) to the brake booster (#1). The longer pipe is hard plastic and runs to just behind the throttle body.

...and you can't just order #14 anymore unfortunately as that's the piece that broke.

Hope this helps!

Thank you. At the the time it broke my check engine light came on along with a flashing transmission light. After supposedly having it fixed my engine light would come on for about 3 days, go off for maybe 5 days then come on again. This has been a cycle for about 2 1/2 weeks since taking it to a mechanic. This morning my transmission arrow light is on. It's not flashing though. I'm thinking perhaps it was a transmission issue to begin with.
