98 s70 egr making tapping/clicking noise on start-up.

I've noticed a clicking sound when starting the car the last few times. I tracked it down to the what I believe is the egr planted on top of the turbo. When I put my finger on it over the top hole the tapping would stop. The last time it happened, today, it lasted for about a minute. I recently changed the front O2 sensor and the induction hoses. Is this a sign that it needs cleaning or is on its way out? Or is it a symptom of something else?

The EGR is easy to clean. I used carb cleaner. You should also clean the cannon plugs with some contact cleaner. It is a simple solenoid that opens. Easy to op check with 12 volt DC.

The EGR, if you have it, is on the intake manifold and not really near the turbo. I think what you might be describing is the SAS valve if it goes into the exhaust manifold and looks sort of like a mushroom. Search around for cleaning methods but I just do a SAS delete with a diode and forget about it.

Thanks Lee. You are of course right. II do not think my car even has an egr. I should have known that was the sas valve since I had tracked down an sas code to the torn vacuum connector on it last year. I had considered deleting it when I was having the problem and it seems the Swedish beast has forced my hand.
