98 V70 Clutch / manual transmission finale

Post by cuhfs »

Hi , new issue putting the car back together from the install of the new clutch and slave cyl. The engine is not aligning right. I have the subframe loosely bolted but the engine mount by the crankshaft is far from the correct spot. What is the procedure to get back to the proper alignment. See pic. Remember all 4 corners of subframe are loosely bolted in. See pic for problem. As always, THANK YOU for any help / advise you can offer

What kind of shape are the hydraulic motor mounts in? When I replaced my clutch I didn't completely remove the right hand side subframe bolts and I was able to walk the left had side back into place with a floor jack and the motor mount was real close when I got the subframe lined back up. I had to move the jack over to that side of the car to do the final alignment between the engine and the front mount but it really wasn't much different than the procedure for replacing the mount itself. I use jacks and come along hoists quite a bit on this type of job to get things lined up.

I think the motor mounts are in ok shape BUT They are original. I prefer to leave them not replace since this job is soooo big I was looking forward to the finale ... which keeps eluding me. I see from the answer above, that I will probably need to figure out how to best use come-along straps and jacks to reposition the engine. I will take a shot at it trying to figure how and where is best to strap and jack and maneuver. Any tips or "ideas" for how to accomplish my move, is very much appreciated. "I will try to "Figure it out" as well since I am hands on - "on site". Thank you

I don't know if this is helpful. But there are some pointers here... I've watched it many times. I know a clutch job is in my future... (When my wife stops at a red light, she loves to hold down the clutch, just in case.) Good luck, cuhfs, I look forward to reading your update!

Closing this loop. Per Lee I used a come-a-long (I hooked at the steering rack mount under back of engine to the front sub-frame at towing hook...) and used a jack with it and pry bar and muscled it into place. Broadly speaking...tasks left are attach steering rack to sub-frame, reinstall axles and attach all hoses and wires etc. Then pray to the "Volvo Gods" that I did everything right. Thanks for all your help.
