93 Volvo 850 GLT w/ ECC...help getting correct parts

Post by bjack56 »

I'm a little confused when shopping for parts for my 1993 850 GLT w/ ECC. Wife loves it, would likely let me go before her 850 :D Time to get some things fixed. Have done some minor body part replacements (power antenna, wiper arm swap from S70, etc...) but 1st time into interior electrical components.

Thanks to this site I was able to pull error DTC codes from the OBD1.
Port B1 = 231, 418
Port B5 = 232
Port A3 = 213, 214, 443, 142

In my parts search for B1 error = blower motor resistor & blower motor (replacing both while at it) I'm getting conflicting or confusing information on the part number that will work & or compatable. One thread here said part #9144354 other (parts sites) say #9134932 will also work & some say no?

I'm using this sitehttp://www.volvopartswebstore.com/showA ... egory=7854
to get part numbers to search the web for replacement...Item #19 in link. 2 options & several reference numbers I can't decipher.

So,
1) Where is a good place to find correct part diagram
2) How to determine correct part & if alternate cross reference will work
3) Recommended supplier or place to buy most parts from CHEAP

THX

For a '93 the 9144354 comes back as the correct part number. Most of the aftermarket sites like FCP Euro and eEuroparts do a good job of listing the correct parts and they are, in general, reasonably competitive on pricing when compared to the parts counter at most dealerships. For parts I use VIDA which is the dealership parts program. It is generally accurate but you do need to make sure that the part number has not been superseded.

There are a couple of dealerships that do web stores that are very good on pricing but they can be outrageous on shipping. TascaParts.com tends to fall into the latter category.

As far as CHEAP parts go, there aren't any beyond buying junk like ScanTech or much of the URO line.

Thanks Ozark...never heard of Tasca parts, will check them out. The bloer resistor runs from $30-58 used on fleabay & $115+ new on IPD & FCPeuro. Just need it working & can't justify twice the price when adding up all the Error Code fixes needed. Also, need to do the odometer gear fix...should have done a little at a time so wouldn't hurt the wallet so bad, but boss said git-er-done.

THX again

Pick and Pull is often a good source of parts as at that age many cars have replaced the blower motor and the resistor pack by now. Junk yards are good. In Canada I usually pay $25-30 for the motor and $10 for the resistor pack. As I have just found though the resistor packs are a hot commodity in parts yards. The resistor pack part # changed in the 95 year range so be careful when pulling one at a junkyard as you can't usually see the part number until you have it out. Good luck!

How can I find out if only one or both part #9144354 & #9134932 will work...some say only 9144354 & others say both?

Unless someone who has done this can confirm it, you would be relying on dealer to answer that. Good luck! NA Volvo tech services are useless and normally refer you back to the dealer who sent you there! So unless you want to take the risk and buy the 'alternate' part, I'd stick to the correct part. I suppose if FCP claim they are interchangeable, they have a warranty, so ask them if you buy it and it screws up the rest of the system will they cover it?
