iCarsoft i906 = good enough Vida/Dice alternative?

Any experience or opinions on this? I'm just hesitant to get a Vida/Dice system because I don't have a reliable laptop to load it on and I'm afraid of the software not being compatible with my Windows10 machine.

Pricewise it's prety competitive and gets good reviews on Amazon.

Specifically what I need is to be able to scan, read, and erase codes on all the submodules (TCM, BCM, etc). Some live data reading would be nice too.

The issues I've discovered while looking at Vida/Dice is the Dice units are NOT all the same. Discreet components are removed in the $100 units which only allow reading of codes. The $150+ units do allow programming (read the description) and have all but the WiFi components. Depends on what you want. They all come out of China. Vida needs Win 7, 8.x and up are no-go. Also the versions of Vida included start at 2013A to 2014D, with the latter being the latest.

Run VIDA in a virtual machine. I have 2011C (I think) running on 32-bit WinXP under Linux KVM hypervisor.

I have that same obd reader...works great on my xc70 for reading and clearing obd codes...you can also check some functions of components but that's it.

There's a rather comprehensive writeup on Swedespeed about getting Vida 2014D working on a Windows 8/10 Pro 64-bit:

I went ahead and got an iCarsoft i906. $90 I think it was. I scanned all the submodules with ease and cleared the codes. Seems like a good quality unit. I have not viewed any realtime data yet, but that does appear to be an option. There is also a freeze frame feature that helps you explore and log data during events like misfires.

Like I said in the original post, I"m just not interested in jumping through all the hoops and pulling my hair out trying to install Vida on either my old decrepit laptop or my Windows 10 desktop, so for others in my same situation this seems like a good alternative.

I went with the VIDA/ViCE route for 2 reasons:

1) I am interested in getting a tune for my T5 ECM. One of the vendors (Hilton Tuning) uses the DiCE interface to read/load the files.
2) The aforementioned ATF fluid counter reset which is sometimes recommended after an ATF fluid change.
