2006 Volvo s60 2.4t awd transmission fluid change

Post by sacricide »

i just bought this car, i felt i got a decent deal on it at the time, paid $2000 bucks for it. Couple bits of maintenance are really not verifiable on it. specifically when the tranny fluid and differential fluids were changed. Currently the color on the dipstick is Medium brown or so. Would it be safe to do a drain and fill and get it red again? Also what fluids does it take, cant seem to find much info on the AWD if its the same as the front wheel transmission or not.

THis is a rather good video about how to flush. With the mentions that 1. he doesn't use the right fluid, should be the type 3309 for the 5 speed transmissions, 2. there is no real need to first drop the pan, you can replace either all the fluid at once or just a part of it by the radiator hose.

You didn't say how many miles are on this car. I would be tempted (if near or over 100K miles) to do the drain and fill...I was the one that posted one of the methods on this site. To many cars that the old fluid is helping hold things together inside...if that's the case, a full flush might not be such a good idea...drain and fill and drive a few hundred miles and then do it again, repeating 5 or 6 times total...you'll still change out most of your fluid in 1200-1500 miles.

Car is very high mileage. 160k, and I guess today had to be a bad day. There's something wrong, after 4 days of driving, I just experienced the trans slam into gear. when going from reverse, then neutral and into drive, there's like 2 full seconds of delay then goes into drive super hard.I never noticed because when driving it's smooth both up and down shift. . Wonder if I should bother with a fluid change honestly, couldn't hurt if the fluid isn't a fortune

Anyone say what kind of fluid I need?

Maxlife ATF that mentions that it meets Volvo 1161340 (something close to that). It comes in gallon jug at Walmart for $17.87.

Drain and fill, drive it 100 miles and then do it again before you decide you have a big issue.

I believe your car uses the JWS 3309 spec fluid which can be bought from either Volvo or Toyota, but.....

Use the resource button Above to download your manual, then look up the fluid recommendation from Volvo.

Much better than inter webs for good information.

Hey all...MDK here. I've been doing some research. Oragex brought up the top of the jws 3309 trans fluid from Volvo.... which is .. well.. you know. I found out from fcpeuro that the aw 5550 ( aisin Warner) is actually designed and built in Japan... not a Volvo design or manufactured... So .. there for... Idemitsu TLS is the fluid from day one. If this ruffles feathers..too bad. Take it up with fcpeuro or buy the 4 liter jug from Volvo if money is not an issue. MDK rolling on..
