p0102 code

Post by jmaggioc »

Hello all I hope that you can help me with a problem on my "97 850 NA. I left my home the other day and when I got to the first red light, the car misfired a bit and then put up a code. The car ran mostly OK, but every once in a while (I drive about 6 miles on local roads to work), it seemed to misfire a little and then return to normal. I detected a rich fuel odor at this time. When I got home, I put the code reader on it and got a p0102 code for the MAF sensor. FYI, I replaced the sensor, although it is a Cardone, about 5 years ago/45000 miles. I decided to take the car to work, since I had to make only one more day before the weekend when I could look at it. I stopped on the way home Friday to buy some carb.MAF cleaner and when I got back to the car, it wouldn't start. I tried a few times, and then I thought to disconnect the MAF and try again. The car started and i was able to get the car home. I cleaned and reconnected the MAF when I got home, but the car didn't start again. When I disconnected it, it started. Is it a good assumption that the MAF went bad again?

That's generally the case with symptoms like that. The MAF should be a Bosch part though.

I agree. Most used MAFs at the junkyard are perfectly fine, if you don't want to shell out for a new one. But like polska says it must be Bosch.
