i got a genuine pnp switch today because of "gear position sensor signal faulty" code ,resistance checks showed it was faulty also wouldn't always start in park or neutral.Took it up the road which is dirt track in the scrub fault code gone but "4th gear incorrect ratio" code now ONLY appears, which it did initially along with s1, s2 and pnp codes, long change between 2nd to 3rd and won't go into 4th at all.Maybe got to 4th once or twice when cold.Gets worse as it gets up to operating temp. When i physically but lever into "3rd" whilst driving the arrow will display not flashing then when i put it back into drive the arrow disappears.Flushed many litres through oil cooler makes no difference to fluid colour, which is burnt grey or operation of box.Come to realisation box is poo .So i'll get another good low km box or do manual swap or rebuild old box.Not necessarily in that order of preference.
cheers.

I never would have guessed they used different engine management on turbo vs NA, but that tells you how little I know about that side.

And the engine management transforms the so-so Bosch performing components on turbos into Toyota-rivalling Denso setup from 99-02 with Denso MAF, Denso cam and crank sensors and Denso O2 sensor.
Fuel economy on my NA 2000 V70 is at least 25% better than any turbo I own when driven sedately and at least 40% better when driven hard. Apart from the Magnetti throttle these cars are generally unstoppable. They also cope with the 5 speed auto issues better due to less torque and strain.

got a message from ARDtuning who said with the manual swap i would need a denso ecu from same car(year, make, model) with a manual trans then they could clone for mine.So if anyone has a 99 v70 na B5254S manual denso ecu i'll grab it.I think also not 100% that that my B5254S is the same thing as a B5244S from what i've read?

so you were correct mike cheers. If anyone knows the part number for the 99 v70 na denso ecu that would be cool .I was wondering if with the limited coms of the 99 v70 denso canbus system i were to do the tcm, pnp, reverse lights, cruise control mods that you do with a manual swap and just leave original auto ecu in how it would drive other than effecting instrument cluster and abs .This is obviously a simplistic way of looking at it and probably has consequences i can't see but we drive 90% of time on dirt roads with plenty of roos and as a result i personally hate abs.A few times i've missed the driveway cause the road is like clay i'm going to fast and the abs won't let me stop.I would definitely source the correct ecu and have it cloned but in the meantime...?
I think i may have sourced a denso ecu suitable for what i need.i have a 99 v70 YV1LW55B6X which means B5254S, denso 0797008711 ecu and aw50-42le auto.I found an ecu in germany from a 99 v70 YV1LW55B2X which means B5254S, denso 0797008711 ecu and m56h 5 speed gearbox. So might give ARD a email and see if it will work for a clone.

It will work.
I can clone it for you here in Australia in my workshop so don't send it away to USA for 3 weeks
Send them both to me.
As long as both versions have the 512KB file size for engine firmware it should be fine.
The B5244S engine was with control for CVVT (MY 2000) so you don't want that one as it will code for lack of signal to CVVT solenoid and may have incorrect timing advance.

gday Mike, just to make sure before i bite the bullet, both are part numbers 079700-8711.my vin isYV1LW55B6X2548676 the donor one is YV1LW55B2X2628473 which has B5254S motor like mine but m56h 5 speed gearbox so barring file size it's good to go for clone and manual conversion? Any chance of them not both having 512kb file size for engine firmware?

OK some good news Dave !!
The 1999 auto and manual ECMs for the VINs you gave me share the same part number 8601577 so the firmware inside is what makes the difference much like the firmware in ETMs amongst the same part number.
The immo section can't be backed up and copied like the Bosch ECMs however we can remove the flash chip with engine firmware from the manual ECM and resolder it into the auto ECM therefore retaining your immobiliser info.
As there is zero info on this topic wordwide as far as I can tell (all the manual swaps are in ME7 turbos) this would be experimental.
If you're willing to buy a used Denso ECM for me to play with (one that has zero value to anyone) I'm happy to tinker for free and find a solution
