Would it be o.k. to remove the ABS fuse on a 2000 V70 or will it cause unwanted side effects?

I lost the Speedo on my 1999 when the ABS module went out, it's the same early CANBUS system on the 2000. I do have a MT on that car and I'm not sure if AT read speed from ABS or the transmission though.

The tcu gets its speed signal from the abs module. You'll lose the speedometer, odometer and go into limp mode. If it's an issue of just not wanting the abs then pull the little harness off the module that goes to the abs pump and that will disable it without losing everything else.

I pulled the little harness that comes from the abs pump.
I lost the speedometer and odometer.
BRAKE, ABS and CHECK ENGINE lights came on.
After disconnecting and reconnecting the big connector to the ABS module I got rid of the ABS and BRAKE lights.
The CHECK ENGINE light remains on.

Two questions.
1. What's currently going on with the car?
2. What are you wanting the end result to be?

1. I don't like the inconsistent brake feel.
Sometimes after the car has been sitting overnight and I just start driving, the brakes are powerful - exactly the way I like it.
After driving just a little (like 5 minutes) all of the powerful and sharp braking is gone.
Sometimes I can feel the ABS coming on even at a very low speed (about 5-10mph) and under light braking.
All the rotors and pads are almost new. The calipers are moving freely. The brake fluid was replaced a few years ago. Neither the ABS nor brake warning lights have ever been on before today's adventure.
The ABS module was re-soldered a few years ago. That fixed the random RPM jumps when the cruise control was engaged. It also took care of the car's habit to push forward when stepping hard on the brake at a stop.

I'm thinking brake booster failure or vacuum leak here
On dry road, you have to brake hard to get the ABS into play, even
