The Chinese Volvo AIRBAG and SERVICE reset tool...

Post by theWIFES_S70 »

Hey guys, I purchased this tool off of eBay a few months ago. I used it to successfully reset the Service light on my wife's 98 S70 and my brother's 98 V70. I used the cable number #2 to do this. All good.

My buddy just picked up a 98 S70 and he's got an SRS light on. I figured I would give this tool a whirl, since it is supposed to reset the airbag light, too. Well, it didn't. It just kept giving me a connection error light.

There are a bunch of cables that come with this device. There are three cables (#1, #2, #3) that come with this thing that fit the OBD2 port, I forgot to try the other ones... So I'll give them a go when I see my buddy again. But in the meanwhile, does anyone know if this reset tool actually works to reset the airbag light?

I have a Draper branded unit from Europe that resets both SRS and Service lights. I know that to re-set the Service light requires a change of the settings for the unit than for the setting for the SRS light. The machine has other setting for other Volvos and even a Saab SRS for a 900 series. It could be you machine needs you to use another cable to reset the SRS. I take it there are the usual non-existent instructions?

Hey Neil, you guessed it. No instructions whatsoever! Just a bunch of cables! I'll try the other OBD2 cables.

Do you connect the Draper tool and turn the key to the ON position (but not on!) to do all readings (like a normal code reader?). Or is there something more complicated that needs to be done?

You just put the code reader into the OBD2 port and turn key to POS 11 (ignition/warning lights on).

It may be worthwhile trying the supplier web-site or another website for instructions. I found when I bought the Vida copy the instructions were on the supplier website and not in the box!

You should have bought vol-fcr.
With motronic 4.4 engine management you would have access to ALL ecus in the car.
With motronic 4.3,only ecu and climate control unit couldn't be accessed.

So, what was the outcome after switching cables around? Btw, I have a Draper too...never tried to reset the SRS with it but it works great for the service reminder light on my '98 S70.

I didn't get a chance to see my friend! (He lives out in Long Island.) I'll probably get a chance to try this sometime towards the end of the week. Though, maybe I should see if I can communicate with the SRS with the other cables on our S70. There shouldn't be anything wrong with resetting a light that hasn't come on, right? ...

And yeah, I should have purchased a Draper tool... So many shoulda, coulda, wouldas with these Volvos, no? Guess it's all part of the learning experience!
