got it running, now new transmission quirks

Post by cactusjones »

(automatic trans btw) A brief history:

Recently acquired the car, all was good for a few weeks. I had a PCV kit laying around so I installed it. A few days later...

>I brought the car in to get tires and it wouldn't start when the serviceman tried pulling it into the garage. (This came out of nowhere. It was running fine before)

>Towed the car home and eventually found fuse #11 was blown (fuse for ignition coils). Replaced fuse and got it started.

Problems arose on the test drive:

On acceleration the car was kind of stumbling. It would act funky then the trans seemed to downshift because all of a sudden the rpms would go up and the acceleration would smoothen out. I got the car up to around 65mph and it seemed ok then on deceleration, at a stoplight, the tachometer was fluctuating wildly! And I thought the car was going to stall so I put it in neutral and the idle corrected itself and it was smooth. When the light changed, the same acceleration issues persisted.

Once I had it in the driveway, I noticed that the gear indicator light on the dash would not follow what I was doing with the actual shifter (moving it through P/R/N/D) although the indicator light by the base of the shifter would follow correctly.

Are these PNP switch symptoms? Including the acceleration problems?
