Transmission leak of some sort

Post by benpineapple »

Started noticing small drips on the ground under my 98 V70 in my parking space at work, as well as in the driveway where I park (started a month and a half ago, or so). Transmission is leaking roughly a quarter quart of trans fluid a week. I've been checking the level and topping it off every Saturday. Added some slip stop/stop leak a couple weeks ago, but that did nothing. Figured it was worth a shot. Transmission doesn't slip, or shift harshly. When the fluid is low, it will shift a little hard from 3rd to 4th (only when the shift happens between ~45 and ~55, if I'm accelerating onto the freeway and the shift happens above 60mph, no bump).

Only drips after having driven the car, it doesn't drip at all with the car idling in the morning, or when it is just sitting, and off.

Thoughts? I've never dealt with transmission leaks on this car, so I'm unsure what could be at fault, because it doesn't look super obvious to me.

Sorry, orientation of the pics is all messed up. Can't figure out how to flip them.

First check the easier stuff. Clean as muck of it off as possible to help try to identify where it is coming from. Check to transmission cooler lines and then the 2 axle seals first, before panicking.

They have to be flipped before you post them.

And like Neil said, get it cleaned up and check the easy stuff.
