p0243 after maf replaced

p0243 after maf replaced

I bought the car recently. Had a maf code and then replaced sensor with a cheapie one. Ran a little better but noticed the huge crack in the intercooler so I replaced it. I had bought a cheap boost gauge to see what boost I was running and only got 5psi max. With my cheap scanner I noticed there was no reading on the manifold pressure . Replaced the maf again and now my scanner shows vacuum and boost. Now I have a p0243 which I haven't had previously. My boost gauge says maybe 5psi but the scanner jumps up in the 20s. Is this another bad maf. These are both cheap ones from ebay ( im poor ). I thought about putting original maf back in since it may not have been bad to begin with ( bad intercooler ). My first turbo so Im confused.

Welcome to MVS!

Unfortunately only OEM MAF will work. Replace the MAF, clear the codes, and go from there.

That's what I was afraid of. I hope I can get my money back on this ebay crap. I think that the first sensor was just bunk. The second is making the emc freak out by making it think its boosting 25lbs when its really only 5. Where is the best place to get one for a good price?

The Bosch MAF is expensive, e.g. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... 0280217107, but yes it is the only one to get.

In your shoes I might go to the pick-n-pull junkyard to grab a Bosch MAF, any 95-98 turbo or non-turbo 850 or S/V70 has the MAF your car uses. Almost for sure it will be good, if they are cheap enough then grab two of them and you are covered.

Note that a hole in the intercooler will cause a p0243, so it is worth it to make sure all of the intercooler hoses are plumbing is hooked up properly without leaks.

And if you still have your original MAF and it is a Bosch, you should definitely try to swap it back in.

Installed original maf and the car seems to be running ok. So the original maf code was due to the intercooler being broken and the p0243 was due to a bad maf sensor. I think that this was backwards and that's why I got confused. Learned my lesson on ebay parts!

Yes, a broken hose to intercooler will do all you said- glad the original MAF was still good. Btw, I go to the pull-a-part periodically and have a used but good MAF put up for all of our cars. I have been down this road more time than I care to recall.

Car ran good last night with the original maf. Full boost and all was well. But on my way to work the cel came back but now with a few misfire codes. Was bad enough that the cel was flashing. Tune up is on the to do list but right now my money has to be spent wisely. Tune up or possibly still a maf issue?

Misfires are not usually due to MAF, but they can be. If you're saying you read the codes and you are only seeing misfire codes, then I would lean to ignition parts.

The wires have to be Bougicord, I think they run like $65 plus shipping. Plugs you can go with cheap coppers, many to choose from, maybe $3 each. Cap and rotor needs to be Bosch.

New plugs did the trick. Still need to do wires and the rest but that will have to wait a couple weeks.I wouldn't call this car fast but it has NO problem getting on the freeway!

Did the plugs come pre-gapped or did you set the gap before installing them?
