Headlight wiring

The only time I have had any trouble with 850 headlight wiring was when larger, higher wattage, lamps were installed. On the 70 series cars they all burned up and Volvo redesigned the harness to fix that problem and it was usually contained to the portion inside of the headlamp assembly.

In your case you need to buy the repair kit which will come with the connector, a pigtail from the connector, and splices. The repair kit for the 70 series was very cheap but I think that they sold it at basically cost since it repaired a design flaw.

I removed the harness and sleeved all the wires with heat shrink tubing.

That is actually preferable to splicing.

That's what I was thinking. The wire itself was fine. Not even discolored from heat. They just looked like the insulation fell off.
