Do I need a single from the CAN bus or the PWM signal from the accelerator, or could I simply connect the power source directly to the plug of the ETM?

Yes you can run a power supply directly to the plug for the ETM. Make sure it is a switched power supply ( only activated when the ignition is in the second key position), then your CAN signal and PWM will still be active.
