940 Upper trim moulding windshiled

Post by Metallo »

Hi there,

I need to change the upper trim moulding of my windshield, but unfortunately it is a discontinued part.

The P/N is 6848469 - I found a kit in Europe which includes both upper and side rubbers, but you need approx $200.00 shipped here and that does not make much sense to me, as even without shipping the price is a rip off anyhow.

In the US, the few sites that show to hold the part in stock have discovered they have not

It does not look like there isn't any aftermarket available, so I am not sure how to proceed.

Do you know any source producing universal trims that I might be able to customize myself?

Thank you !

Most likely, these are dead ends...I know nothing of these sites...buyer beware, and its best to contact them first.

Trim moulding, upper

Volvo Part Number: 6848469 - TRIM MOULDING UPP

Talk to a body shop...there are junk-yard resellers on ebay, so find one and ask.

Hi,

Those are part of the sites that 'discovered' they don't have the part in stock.

Thank you

Did you try Google search? "volvo 6848469"

the sites I checked show the part as "No Longer Available".

Cross Interchange shows Volvo 3518236. This number also shows Not Available.

Yes I tried them all, all of them show not available or discontinued.
Also, P/N 3518236 is the old one which was superseded by 6848469.

We can find everything for this car but this is really tough and sooner or later everybody will need to change that part.

My 944 is parked in a machine-shed, but I assume this is a metal part.

There are companies that make trim, like this on ebay, but you have to know your size range that would WORK.

There are also companies that make Trim Mouldings (Trim-Gard produces decorative, flexible, plastic body side moldings, wheel well moldings, door edge guard protectors, step tread moldings as well as custom extrusions for your car and truck.)

I have no idea how the 940's trim fits, stuff like silicone can be used to adhere something.

Hi,

Not sure the two URLs will produce what I need, my trim is rubber with a metal frame inside and there are clips to hold it in place.

I will remove the trim, take pictures and then send it to some auto-trim producers and see what happens.

Thanks guys

Using a ruler assists, sort of like this below, but this was taken with cheap flip-phone:

"most newer cars have windshields with pre-attached molding/trim bits. installation is virtually the same minus the install-the-trim step. squirt glue around window frame, float glass, done."

940 should have the black trim glued permanently to the edge of the glass.

So, is this true/false?

I removed the windshield trim from a 1992 Volvo 960 for my 1988 Volvo 760. The trim as attached with clips.
