thump when starting engine

1999 V70 GLT wagon, 130K miles; when starting first time there is a "thump" from front end of car. After starting you can shut off and re-start and no "thump". need to wait 3 to 4 hours and then "thump" returns. Maybe it lasts a second or two, but you do hear it. two shops and a multitude of people cannot pinpoint the issue. yes the engine oil is at full. has anyone experienced a similar issue. Need help,

I would start with a check of the engine mounts. In particular the torque mount on the top of the engine.

I had a 'thump' noise in the rhythm of rpm, when I started the car in winter on a very cold morning and shut off within seconds the restarted it (the noise show up at restart) . I suspect a valve was sticking because of unburned gas? Not sure if it makes sense..

This. Also the torque mount on the bottom - that one caused thumping noises on one of my 850s. Also, it's the easiest to replace.

Have someone start the car while you're watching the engine, see which way it twists, or which mount seems to be giving out the most. Probably a combination of multiple bad mounts if it's thumping that much.
