2005 S60 Blower replacement experience feedback wanted

Post by strefry »

I have a question for PMUNDO1. I would send a private message, but I just registered and it says that I don't have permission to (which is a little silly for a PM)??????? In any case, did you ever do the repair yourself? How did it go? I'm contemplating the same repair for my 2005 S60. My worry is that I get halfway through and then get stuck. I was also considering just buying the blower and resistor direct on the internet and let me local mechanic have the fun of putting it together. Please let me know how it went if you can.

Split your topic with its own thread, and correct title so you get feedback from people with your car, not 2002..

:-)

Its a perfect time of year in New England to tackle this as you don't need either your heat or AC in April/May - so if you get stuck you have several days to deal with it.

There are two difficult parts. First is to disconnect the little 'strut' from the glove box, I managed to break it. Then it's accessing the rear philips screws that attach the blower. A small handle screw driver would be most welcome

I've always found these at the Pull-A-Part when I've needed them for my earlier model Volvo's.
If you have one near you, you could go and pull one from a wrecked car and save yourself some $$.
You can search inventory from the internet to see if compatible cars are on the lot.
Most of my experience has been that the resistor packs and fans are still in these cars and getting at them and taking them out is great practice for you for when you do your own car! That said, you might find some other parts you would like to have too for cheap!
Resistor pack is compatible for all S60's from 2001 to 2009 and most V70, S80's, XC90's, etc.: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... 90-8693262
Fan is compatible similarly: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... 0-31320393

Oh, and by the way, the blower motor and resistor pack replacement is not very difficult on any of these cars...you just have to gain access to them under the glove box. The write-ups here for this repair are great!
