The fine print usually states that the part has to be installed by a certified ASC mechanic for the labor to be covered. Even at that, most new parts warranties are only a year which gets you most of the time. Sad system. Just another reason to stick with OEM parts, especially when fixing things that are difficult to replace.

Ouch. I see what you mean. But if someone sold you seals that caused that kind of damage, wouldn't they be liable for it? They would be here, me thinks.

To hold the parts vendor liable for labor costs would be a "lol" from a judge/law. Way too many variables to factor in when workmanship comes into play.

Yes, some companies would be out of business already. That is why we have to look out for each other and inform about low quality parts.

To the OP:

What's your total budget for the car plus any urgent maintenance?

Do you want a turbo or NA engine?

I saw a 5-speed NA P80 V70 advertised in my area for $1100... it was on Craigslist for months. The ad didn't mention any urgent maintenance (though who knows...)

Hey 1337, around here in NYC, most P80s are automatic. (Except for one N/A that someone's trying to get $2000 for...) I saw a 5-speed with a blown head gasket about sixty miles and two bridges/tunnels away... I really just wanted to know if it was possible to drive that distance with a blown head gasket. Honestly, I want to spend as little as possible! But I'm starting to realize (especially given the cost of a doing the head gasket, valve job, etc.) that it is probably best to pick one up in good shape...
