Actually, that sounds like the oil trap.

Have you done a compression test.

I don't remember the intake hose being too difficult I think there is a hard to reach clamp on the turbo side but if you lean across the engine you should be able to see/feel it well enough.

COuld be; do you have a boost gauge hooked up? That's the only reliable way to tell. More importantly, how is the oil leak situation?

Do the glove test on the dipstick tube to see whether the PCV is working correctly or not. I don't remember whether you did the heater hose mod I mentioned in the beginning. That would be my next step.
