Hi everyone this is my first time posting here.
I have a 99 S80 that the key will not turn at all and the steering wheel is locked in position. I have tried wiggling the steering wheel and trying to turn the key but no luck.
I am trying to find a quick solution to the problem so that I am at least able to drive it until I am able to replace the ignition switch.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Pull hard in the opposite direction the wheel is turned and turn the key at the same time. The steering wheel should move slightly and the key should turn freely. My 1998 V70 used to do the same thing. I always park my car with the wheel straight as a habit that started with the V70. June

I have tried that but when i pull on the steering wheel too hard. it moves like it is not connected to anything or that its slipping... best way i can describe it.
Can i punch out the ignition? for a temp solution?

Have you tried to move the gear selector to be sure it is fully into park? Maybe try to move it while moving the key. Had one of my Volvos years ago that sometimes would not trigger the ignition switch to allow the key to turn all the way off so keep would get stuck and not come out. I think it was the 1989 740 or the 1995 960 and once Mike forced the key back and out. I thought it would never turn again but it did free up eventually. My 2004 and 2002 S80 both had chips in the keys and readers in the switch. According to my dealer as their excuse for th high cost of the keys replacement. You may want to consider the high cost of replacing the switch if you damage it and the car may not start without it. I wanted a replacement service key for my 2004 because I hate the two switch blade keys and got the price of $250.00 for the service key because of the chip. June
