Volvo V70 Aftermarket Radio ASC Issue.
Volvo V70 Aftermarket Radio ASC Issue.
I installed an aftermarket radio in my V70 without a harness, and the sound and connections are all fine. The issue is that whenever I start to drive it shuts off, and will sometimes come back on when I get to a certain speed, then shut off again when I go below 20kph. I know it has to do with the Automatic Sound Compensation that is a part of the cars software. What I want to know is if there's any way to turn it off or get rid of it completely without the original stock radio?

I have no idea but what's wrong with the stock radio? I have on in the for sale section if you give up on what you have and want to return to stock.

Obviously, it's not fine. Why would you skip using a harness?
Those color coded beauties are only like 5 bucks on eBay, man.
These cars don't have radio software. They're old. The ASC is in the stock radio, not the car.
But there is a lead with a speed signal on it in the stock radio wiring that you probably
have hooked up incorrectly. That's why you use a harness. It's all color matched to your
after market HU's wiring. It's nearly impossible to smoke anything - Easy Peasy.
My suggestion - Modify the cheap radio with a harness and not the considerably more
valuable Volvo with wire cutters. Return your dash wiring to stock, get a harness adapter,
and hook up the new HU the right way the second time. It should all just work.
And you probably want to do it soon - If you fry something in the speed signal feed,
it could get ugly fast. That signal talks to a LOT of other systems in your car.

Well at the time I didn't really know about the harness option, if I did I would obviously gone with that. I've installed my own radio in an older Volvo and it worked perfectly, so this was strange.
This did help though. I had no idea what it was at first and no one else had the same problem, so through some basic research I was only able to gather that it was connected to whatever talked to the ASC.
I also know I should just get a harness and it would work normally, I was just curious as to what exactly is causing the issue/if anyone else is experiencing the same thing.
