Car won't move in reverse but moves fine in drive

I have a 2000 Volvo V70 XC SE AWD and as of today she stopped moving in reverse. It sounds like the gear is engaging but when I hit the gas it just revs and goes nowhere. It acts like its in neutral. It even will roll forward if I'm on an incline as if in neutral. Checked the tranny fluid and it was a little low so put more in and that didn't fix it. Not sure if it is the pnp switch because reverse lights do come on. For a while now it's been a bit shuddery in reverse. Drive still acts perfect, it has all the get up and go it always has. No obd2 codes. Am I looking at a toast tranny or?

My friend has one that has no reverse, he has been driving it for a year. Another guy I know drove his 850 with no reverse for about 125,000 miles.

I would plan for a transmission replacement. You could also replace the fluid and drive it until it dies.

I think I drove a bug in college for three years without reverse which meant choosing friends, shops, and workplaces with circular driveways or hills.

Unfortunately a sign that the end is near. I drove on a transmission that had no reverse, or 1st gear for like 3 months in college. Eventually one day none of it worked. Very anti-climactic.

Could you fix this? Same problem with mine and not knowing where to start looking

Just out of curiosity, how many miles on your vehicle?
