1998 s70 GLT Filling the transmission for a fluid change.

Post by PAPASAL »

So, here we go.
I purchased a used 1998 S70 GLT. 228k miles, Within 2 days it started to not drive anywhere. I came to this forum and looked at ALL KINDS OF RESEARCH!
Replaced the Driver side axle. it drove.Wouldnt go into gear the next day.
Did the Position 2 15-20 gearstick toggles.
Replaced the PNP.
Slow on low gear, but got her up to 90 on the interstate.
Woke up to go to emissions office for P0455, replaced the Purge Valve, previously.
The car wouldnt budge. Rechecked axle, twas snug.
Was told to check the fluid. The yellow dipstick was sticking out a bit. (Went to press into tube, felt like it was just tapping the top of tranny.)
Using 1/4 of a quart into the funnel, it would not go into the trans, as if it were blocked.

Have followed here in regards to ABS unit and Vic Rojka (forgive spelling), have found TPS switch, and I will gladly look into those. But if someone could tell me why fluid isn't going into the tranny would be great.

All right... pulled the dipstick tube...it was cluttered with gunk... cleaned it out.. FLUID WAS able to go in!!!! Yay...

Put in 2 qts... she moved and drove without a hitch or hesitation rather!!!

So I say... TEST DRIVE to myself on the slab...
Go through gearage just fine... no slip or nothing....

THEN... outta nowhere... stalls out... tjrn engine off wait 10 mins... she goes back into gear... yay!! ( I've deduced it's a low fluid issue).

I move 20 ft.. and the driver axle pops out AGAIN!!!
SO, what causes this? 3rd time, 2 axles... and lost 6qts of fluid....
Circlip, Alignment and Torque mount???? Possible struts?

^^^ could this save me a shit ton on a tranny replacement

The drive axle us popping out if the transmission?

I think there is some major damage/bad fitment in the front suspension if this happening

When you were replacing the axle did you encounter any damaged or loose suspension or steering components?
Always first off the line, while all the cool people are still staring at their phones.
