Each time I log on to scrutinize a new or existing thread, all I read is S80 owners in distress.
As a change, I would like to report that mine has been driven 12,000 miles since acquisition in early October of 2015 and has mainly required replacement of parts that normally wear such as timing belt, spark plugs, brakes & a a/c dryer.
Only real repairs I have done were the drivers seat restoration & a busted headlight lens. I also replaced lower control arms & ball joints.
Mods done are a K&N air filter & a muffler replacement for better fuel economy & more aggressive exhaust note.
Most comfortable car I have ever driven. Handles the backroads well also.
The car typically returns 31 average highway mpg's on any 90% gasoline/10% ethanol blend but I notice stronger acceleration with the 93 octane Shell V-Power fuel.
Love the sweet six.
My other vehicles are a 2015 VW Passat LE (Just did a brake job to it & now it brakes as well as the Volvo), a 2003 Dodge Quad Cab SLT & a 2008 Yamaha FJR1300.
Hopefully there are other S80 owners that read this section that have also been so blessed to have a great car.
My 2001 2.9 Is Such A Sweet Car!

I'm with you, very happy with my T6.
It's just that the reason these forums are so popular is you can get great effective help with problems. Not so much need to ask for help when everything is going well. So it's like trying to gauge the general state of health of a city's population by only observing its hospital emergency ward. These are great cars and, second hand, great value if you watch what you buy.

I completely love my 2004 T6 and agree these 6 cylinder models are in my opinion the best driving cars Volvo ever made. I absolutely did not like the 5 cylinder version. If I could figure out how to get a picture on here I would put one of my 2002 T6 which saved my life. My sister was so impressed that I opened the door and stepped out she sold her car and bought a 2005 T6 which she currently still drives. That is three T6 cars in my family over the years which none have had any issues with the transmissions, turbo, or any other flaws people say are common on these. We live in Florida where it is hot and traffic is bad. Yes both cars have had normal service over the lifetime of each car and 3K oil changes rather than 7500 as required. Over the years I have owned 240 ,740 ,960 ,850 5 speed only engine to lock, S90, V70 which is the only Volvo to have transmission trouble I have owned , and two S80 cars. I have been driving since 1986 and feel I have owned enough Volvo cars to speak with confidence. I absolutely loved my 1989 740 GLT and the 1998 S90 as well. I wonder if half the people who answer a post about the S80 with negative comments actually have owned one with the 6 cylinder and GM transmission. I agree the S80 is a sweet car. June

My Turn. 2001 S80 2.9. 237000 Miles and still my daily driver. I absolutely love this car. Am now replacing the heater core which is the most difficult thing i have done to this car. My goal is 300000 miles .
Being my 2nd car, my first being a 2000 Saturn SL2.... Car is definitely an upgrade by any standard. Even having to replace the oil trap and some other parts. The previous owner of this Volvo had no clue what they were doing, and now I'm picking up the slack. Hard.

My 1999 S 80 2.9...awesome car. I was given this car by inheritance, no one wanted it. the car had set several years without being driven.closets volvo dealership several hundred miles away. I personally have never at the time owned a volvo, driven one or even rode in a volvo. I knew absolutely nothing about volvo. But when I caught talk of having a auto wreaking company haul it off to the crusher I couldn't let that happen. Having 2 degrees in Automotive Technology Electronic Control Systems and mechanical engineering also working in the automotive industry since college I felt the call to save a neglected abused unwanted viking boat..I call her the Swed now.
A few months in my shop and a few thousand dollars I love my swed. I pretty much rebuilt the entire S80. And she is sweet. Have to agree ,it is the most conformable car Iv ever owned or driven, and living in Texas it's a wide open highways with speed limits of 75 mph to 85 mph. I do travel lots for work and pleasure. Now my other automobiles sit in my garage and driveways. Nissan Titan 4x4 with every option ,leather heated cooled seats premium sound system, she use to be my baby, now she sits in my garage, 2014 year model. Ford Taurus SHO. fully equipped and twin turbos, but she's only for fun,one night stand once in a while. 1971 Chevell 454 SS. She's only to take out for show, when I don't want to be alone she always draws a crowd, and holds the ticket record, don't think Iv ever been with her and not be awarded a ticket. And now a project car build, 1940 Plymouth Road King. She's going to be really sweet, but still only another pretty face, not my swed. My viking ship is my favorite and no other car can I drive 500 miles and still feel good.
I ran on way to long, talk all day about my first. Always remember you're first.
