91 740 brake light

I have a 91 740 with 177,000 miles. All of my brake lights went out, and I went and bought new ones (the kind specified in the owner's manual) and installed them. I installed them, following the directions from the manual, and the lights still don't work. The tail lights and, headlamps and signals work fine, the brakes themselves are fine, and there isn't anything else wrong with the car far as I can tell. What could this be (a short circuit maybe?) and what could I possibly do about it?

Just to update the this, I checked the fuse a few hours ago and it's fine. The brake lights still aren't working. What else could this be? Thanks.

Are you getting 12v to the brake light terminals? It is unusual for all three to go off together. If there is no power to the light units I would check the brake light switch.

The brake light switch is mounted on the brake pedal bracket.
