The behavior of the arrow is normal. Let's get that out of the way first of all.

Now, it does seem like you're stuck with starting in third gear. Check for DTCs again. Has the code returned? Then check whether you can still shift manually. Will it shift to first if you put your shifter in L? Jerking when shifting to R isn't exactly abnormal, but if it's harder than usual, it's something to take into account.

I still have a buck or two on a solenoid issue, but it may be that your PNP switch is toast (or needs a talking to) as well. Taking your rumbler down to Bergeron Volvo is your best course of action right now - you need more information before you start taking any more steps. When you get in your car to go there, do the "PNP switch cleaning". Ignition to ON, engine off. Row your shifter back and forth through all the positions, 15-20 times. That might do something. If it does, you need a new PNP switch. If it doesn't, then Beeeeeeeeeeeeergeroooooooooon is your next stop.
