850 bumper: can the unpainted plastic part be replaced?

So i just scratched the gray plastic part on the rear bumper of my 96 wagon really badly (it was scratched before, so what...). Can this part be replaced seperately? If yes, how?

The bumper's not an easy fix, piece by piece.

If my memory serves, there are 2 or 3 cover pieces, one of which is the one you're talking about. Then there's a sealing strip, and some other stuff. The cover part (I can't find a part no. right now) will probably run you 300-400 USD...

Most people with that kind of damage will probably want to take the bumper off, sand it down/smooth the damage and then paint the plastic part or the whole bumper. Getting the bumper off isn't hard - I think Robert (rspi) even has a video off it. I seem to remember stumbling across something like that on his YouTube channel.

You might be surprised but I was thinking of junk yard parts rather than new from Volvo. Should cut a zero away.

Yeah, that would be a better idea. Point is, it's probably worlds easier to try and find a whole bumper, instead of that cover. I wouldn't even know how to separate the parts of that thing. Seems like a world of frustration to me.

Thanks for the video-link. I guess i'll just get a nice bumper and get it painted together with my front bumper and the hood.
