I'll be getting a green tune from ARD in the near future and that means my transmission will hate me even more so my next step was to add an external cooler right after the oem one. Less than a month ago I flushed the tranny with 16qt of Valvoline Max life AT fluid as it looked brown and probably never been done by the PO. Anyway I decided to use the front grille area for it as I feel I might end up going with a front mount cooler (maybe) so the first thing was to remove the horns and their wiring loom.
Second, I made up a couple of brackets to hold the cooler in place and ran the hose supplied with the kit (cut in half) to the inlet and outlet.
To tie the hoses together I bought a couple of brass connectors (3/8") at Home Depot and cut the lower hose which comes out of the radiator and goes back to the transmission.
After all was connected together and clamped down, I proceeded to find a spot for the horns. My 99 doesn't have a SAS pump so tucking the horns down there was a perfect idea, not to mention the threaded holes are there which coincidentally match with the horn bolts
The bracket holding the horns are threaded too so I drilled them a bit bigger so the bolt goes in freely. The top one went in easy (pointing down) but on the bottom one I had to loosen the horn bracket to rotate it so the horn could be installed pointing down as well.
All in all they found a new place and they actually work.
The cooler is a Hayden 1402 (around 15" long and 5" wide)
