Re: VIDA 2015 - beginning of the end?

Post by dj_varizes »

Hello everyone. I hope my question is not out of the subject. As we are talking about vida clones, I want to ask: I have a v40 2001. No spare keys, no fob. I bought a clone with vida 2014D. I could read some info. Worked on my v50 too.
Does anyone know if I can reprogram a new remote fob and new key, with a copy of vida 2014D? How?
Sorry if the subject is out of discussion, or already in another post. It's been a while I am looking but can't find information...

Seems I saw this discussed elsewhere- even with a 3 day subscription, apparently key programming are dealer only? At least that's what I seem to recall.

Question for the VIDA 2015 version expert...
Does the Chinese-Clone DICE work or you have to buy the Volvo Genuine DICE (which is about $850)?

No, its not specifically restricted to dealers, but you have to be registered with NASTF (National Automotive Service Task Force). In effect if you're going to do key programming they want to know who you are to discourage car theft/key programming by common thieves.

I'm not sure what I think of this approach. People determined to steal your car instead of nabbing it when it's parked and unoccupied are shifting to very dangerous tactics: Interacting with the vehicle owner to get the keys-- carjacking/robbery seeking car keys at gunpoint, 'bump and run' etc.

In the old days before smart keys/transponders became virtually standardized these tactics were nearly unheard of/extremely rare.
Before the main concern revolved around leaving a vehicle parked unattended. Now the danger has heightened to simply being seen driving it around - because they have to target YOU first before they can steal/do anything with the car.
